This is the first studio album from Joe Strummer since bad diagnosis in 1989. Joe Strummer had quite a long carriere and they made many hits. Since Joe Strummer last CD (Earthquake Weather) on Savoy Records back in 1989, I have felt a massive void in my life. I wish that “Earthquake Weather” album was instrumental.
Vocals of Joe Strummer in King of the Bayou really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. Island Hopping - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. Joe Strummer offers the kind of music here that makes you reflect on yourself. Dizzy’s Goatee is flawed, nonetheless pretty good song. The song Shouting Street ending is my favorite… so catchy! I find myself hearing bits of Boogie with Your Children here and there throughout my waking hours. Leopardskin Limousines is a striking and quite long song. Sikorsky Parts is the song that really did it for me. Jewellers & Bums is simply gorgeous. Highway One Zero Street - To me, this is the best song on the Earthquake Weather. Ride Your Donkey - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. Passport to Detroit is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about. Sleepwalk is a bit of a show-tune.
