Since Hilltop Hoods last CD (Hard Road: Restrung) on EMI Records back in 2007, I have felt a massive void in my life. While no new Hilltop Hoods album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 2007 tour in Australia. Lead single “Hard Road Restrung” and “Stopping All Stations Restrung” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. This album is awesome.
Listening to Stopping All Stations Restrung you can hear that Hilltop Hoods has still amazing chemistry with band members. The opening track Conversations from a Speakeasy Restrung - Hilltop Hoods, , is very much like you would expect from other albums. This track is just fantastic from start to finish. Monsters Ball Restrung is one of the coolest songs Hilltop Hoods has ever recorded. I can’t stop playing Breathe Restrung. This song may be the most meaningful. What a Great Night Restrung - A nice song. Lyrics of Obese Lowlifes Restrung - Hilltop Hoods, are precise and evocative. City of Light Restrung is simple, dignified and effective, Hilltop Hoods refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Clown Prince Restrung is the funkiest number on the album. Medley: The Captured Vibe Restrung makes a person feel marvelous. Medley: Recapturing the Vibe Restrung - Okay, I just talked about depth. After you’ve listened to Roll on Up, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate.
