This disc has all of the essential Harry Belafonte classics. Since completing 0’s ‘Amen’, Harry Belafonte fulfilled their contract with Mute Records and where under no obligation to release another album. This is one of the best Cd’s Harry Belafonte has dropped to date. I love this album so much, i’ve been crazy about Harry Belafonte ever.
And I Love You So - This one is lively and fun. Angelina is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. Banana Boat Song (Day-o) is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. Coconut Woman is a great song to contemplate the modern music and what it really is all about. Fifteen - For me, this is the best of the album. Get an Ugly Woman to Marry You have really caught my ear and imagination. This song may be the most meaningful. I do adore her - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. In Island In The Sun Harry Belafonte is at his best. I like the agression and power of Jamaica Farewell. Jump In The Line is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. Malaika (My Angel) gets you up and jumping. Mama look a boo-boo is the albums biggest surprise. Harry Belafonte breathes new life into the music in Matilda. You can find feelings on this piece of art. |titile| is the kind of record that makes you remember why music can be so addictive. A fantastic track full of wonder. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on Hits and Rare Songs is Streets of London. Swing Low, Sweet Chariot (with Willie Nelson) - A nice song. Sylvie is the more seemingly obscure song on Hits and Rare Songs that bear up best to repeated listening. Simple and heartfelt closing track The Ballad of Sigmund Freud closes Hits and Rare Songs on a high note. Get Hits and Rare Songs and turn on The Lion Sleeps Tonight if you are going to sip your wine late at night. Zombie Jamboree is possibly the best song Harry Belafonte has come up.
