It has been thirteen years Elvis Costello’ last studio CD, “The Very Best Of” which won Array Emmy Awards and was nominated for album of the year. The Very Best Of carries a very emotional theme throughout the album. ‘The Very Best Of’ kicks the album off with a blast of pure pop energy. To me Elvis Costello is the best band ever.
Olivers Army - another great track from the The Very Best Of album. Watching the Detectives - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. Veronica is perfect and different song. Tokyo Storm Warning has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Elvis Costello’s strong vocals come to the fore. What sets The Other Side Of Summer apart is Elvis Costello’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. In Sulky Girl the music gets its power. So Like Candy motivates you to get up and do something to improve your life and the life of others. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on The Very Best Of is She. Nice and different song. Pump It Up has a beautifully haunting disco flavor. The song feels complete. This track makes my mind whirl and vibrate with flowing energy. You can find feelings on this piece of art. Everyday I Write The Book - This happy song is an ode to optimism and an anthem. Clubland without a doubt is the standout song of The Very Best Of. Brilliant Mistake is another favourite of mine. This song could easily nestle itself onto the world top playlists. A Good Year For The Roses is so unique, as each one of the songs is. Opening track Accidents Will Happen shows the best of Elvis Costello. (I Dont Want to Go to) Chelsea (3:08) - awsome.
