Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Black Sabbath on ‘Heaven and Hell’. On The Dio Years album, Black Sabbath have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. This compilation contains all of the biggest hits by Black Sabbath. I wish that “The Dio Years” album was instrumental.
Ear In The Wall is exquisite song though, very addictive. This track is clearly meant to showcase Black Sabbath’s vocal abilities. Music of The Devil Cried is gentle, never overbearing. Black Sabbath sings TV Crimes in such a comforting, confident voice that you can’t help but be moved. This track is a great song that still never gets old. After All (The Dead) hits the heart. All of songs on The Dio Years and have something to say letting alone Falling Off The Edge Of The World. Turn Up The Night make listening to Black Sabbath like being in some sort of time warp. It’s such an underrated song. I loved The Mob Rules the first time I heard it. |titile| is quite refreshing and sets the tone for what is going on in The Dio Years. The opening track Lonely Is The Word is very much like you would expect from other albums. Die Young is sonically very melodic with nice haunting verses. Black Sabbath sings his heart out in Neon Knights. Lady Evil is a bit of a show-tune.
