six years ago, Arctic Monkeys briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Mardy Bum”. This album has some very good songs like A Certain Romance and Mardy Bum. On Beneath the boardwalk album, Arctic Monkeys have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Lots of variety between tracks. My favorite is Mardy Bum
Mardy Bum (2:54) - Oh, this is one of my favorites! It’s so catchy, it’s amazing. Choo Choo is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. Cigarette Smoke is a song that will not reduce you to tears but leave you thinking long after Beneath the boardwalk have ended. After you’ve listened to Curtains Closed, most everything else can’t hold up and is second rate. The song Dancing Shoes ending is my favorite… so catchy! I love the melodic melody of Fake Tales of San Francisco and to this day it makes me feel good. From The Ritz To The Rubble(2) has to be one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire album. One listen to the sheer beauty of I bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor(1) was all I needed. This is the most melodic ambitious and satisfying track in Beneath the boardwalk. Riot Van is possibly the best song Arctic Monkeys has come up. What sets Scummy apart is Arctic Monkeys’s innovative and organic way of creating atmospheres. Still Take You Home - A nice song. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Wavin’ Bye To The Train Or The Bus, which shows, blatantly, how much Arctic Monkeys has evolved as a singer. On the run from the MI5 (Live) is a very catchy tune.
